The Carousel is a novel cast as a melodrama, written in retrospect and in the third person. As the story opens, the dying Ana Balint, once a famous dancer, is remembering her past which covers two diferent time periods and two countries: the former Yugoslavia, now Serbia, and Russia. An intimate story of a ballerina, whose fragile body and giant mind left a mark on all the stages she did her ballet dancing. At the same time, the author tells about people leading their small/great lives, farmers and artists, poets and their Muses, old shadowy farms in the region of Bačka and small times, mornings smelling of home made fruit preserves and unforgettable Russian winters...
