In Zemun during the Second World War, the coexistence of Serbs, Germans and Croats is at first tolerant but everything is moving towards a real whirlwind. Using the original form of the ''tabloid novel'' in which each chapter is in fact a newspaper article, the layered plot of Schnitt is quickly reconstructed: the main character, a man from Zemun, Novak Maričić, becomes romantically involved at the same time with a German journalist Karen Frost and Monika Vranić, a contributor of the weekly paper Spremnost from Zagreb. The resolution of this triangle brings with it a double family tragedy and the escape of Novak Maričić, and the far-reaching search for him from Zemun to Ravna Gora.
